8 Word order

8.1 Normal word order

A sentence normally contains at least two elements, the subject (x) and the verb (o). These two elements are the most important members of the sentence because they form the actual sentence. A subject is the person or thing that performs the activity which the verb describes (see Mini-dictionary).

In a normal sentence structure the subject comes before the verb. This is called normal word order.

Manden sover.   The man is sleeping.
x o     x   o

Han spiser.   He is eating.
x o   x   o

Questions of understanding

8 Ordstilling

8.1 Ligefrem ordstilling

Sætningen skal normalt indeholde mindst to led, nemlig grundled (x) og udsagnsled (o). De to led er sætningens vigtigste led, fordi de danner selve sætningen. Et grundled er den person eller ting som udfører handlingen, som udsagnsleddet beskriver (se Minileksikon).

I almindelig sætningsbygning kommer grundleddet foran udsagnsleddet. Det kaldes ligefrem ordstilling.

Manden   sover.
x o

Han   spiser.
x o
