2.6 Nouns in the genitive

A noun also has a genitive form. The genitive indicates that we possess something.

Barnets tøj er snavset. The child’s clothes are dirty.

The genitive is formed by adding an -s to the ending of the noun.

Comparison:
In English the genitive is formed by adding ’s in the singular and s’ in the plural if the noun is a person or an animal. If the noun is an impersonal thing, an of-construction is used.
